The haku method can also be used for just leaves. This is fern tree and Song of India.

Other Lei

Picture
A lei papale (for hat), made by twisting Pele's hair and kaunaoa. Kaunaoa grows like a vine on the beach or grass, and up whatever it can find.

Finished Lei

As a beginner I wished I had a finished lei I could look at to see if I was won track.  So here is a video of one.  You will see that it is not perfectly straight, it twists a little, and it is not perfectly uniform.  But it's a decent beginner lei, and the next video demonstrates that those issues are not noticeable in the finished lei.

Try not to be discouraged, the really beautiful lei seen in some of the photos above were made by lei makers who have years and years of practice under their belt.
